El Principe Guillermo tuvo que abogar para que la FIFA accediera mediante un escrito solicitando este símbolo en sus playeras como ya es tradición.

La nota tomada del portal Daily Mail dice asi:

Fifa has agreed that the England football team can wear a poppy on their black armbands during Saturday's match with Spain, the Football Association confirmed this evening.
The decision comes after days of campaigning by the FA and Government to allow the memorial flower to be displayed during the match against Spain.
Earlier Prince William wrote to Fifa to express his dismay at their decision not to allow England players to wear commemorative poppies during the friendly match.
In the note penned privately in his role as president of the Football Association, the Prince asked football's international governing body to reconsider its decision.

The Prince's intervention came hours after Prime Minister David Cameron  vowed to support the England team if they defy a Fifa ban on wearing poppies on their kit this weekend.
The Prime Minister previously called the ban an outrage, and today said the country's international players would have his backing, however they decided to react to the order.
Asked if PM believes England team are free to defy the poppy ban, a No10 spokesman said: 'Yes, of course'.
